Unlikely Source: Dominik Mysterio Reveals How The Office Developed His Prison Dom Gimmick

It worked. There are all kinds of different ways to present a wrestler and some of them are more serious than others. Occasionally you will see a wrestler find something that just works for them, even if it might not be the most serious situation in the world. That is the case at the moment on Monday Night Raw, and now we know some more about how it came together in the first place.

For most of the year, Dominik Mysterio has spoken extensively about his time in prison, following his arrest on Christmas Eve for invading his father Rey’s home. Since then, it has been revealed that Dominik only spent a few hours in prison, though he has continued to talk about his time there. In an interview with Inside The Ropes, Dominik said that the idea came about as part of a joke about a character called Prison Mike on the Office. WWE then ran with the idea and it became what it is today.

Opinion: The whole Prison Dom character has been one of the bigger surprise hits for WWE in recent memory as it came out of nowhere and wound up being a lot of fun. Dominik did not have the best history of having his own personality or character and now he stumbles upon this. It’s a great change of pace for him and I’m interested in seeing just how much further he can take the thing.
