He isn’t pleased. There are all kinds of legends in the wrestling world and some of them are associated with certain moves or ideas that have stood the test of time. It can be a big deal when someone does something that is so closely associated with someone else and that is the case again today. Now though, the legend best associated with the move isn’t exactly happy.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: She’s In: AEW Reportedly Signs New Star To Full Time Deal
In recent weeks, SmackDown star Lacey Evans has been using emphasizing her time in the Marine Corps and using the cobra clutch as her finishing move. This is the same move used by WWE Hall Of Famer Sgt. Slaughter, who commented on the situation in an interview with WrestleBinge. Slaughter said that he was “a little upset” about not being asked for permission to use the hold. He explained that Ted DiBiase asked for permission when he used the cobra clutch under the name the Million Dollar Dream. There is nothing to suggest that Evans will stop using the move.
They’ve both done well with it. Check out the two sides:
Opinion: On one hand, I can understand this as Slaughter did make the move famous and became a huge star with it. On the other hand, Slaughter hasn’t been a full time wrestler in about thirty years. How long of a statute of limitations is there supposed to be on something like this? I can understand maybe a quick call to Slaughter but Evans isn’t likely the one making these decisions. It seems like a big deal out of nothing, as Slaughter has been a legend for decades now and isn’t exactly using the move to this day. Maybe Evans or someone should contact him, but hopefully it’s all just laughed off.
