He’s a big one to add. Wrestling has a unique reputation in sports, as the wrestlers are seen as athletes but not in a legitimate competition. They can clearly do things that most people can’t, but they do not have the most respect when it comes to other athletes. It can mean something to have more accepted sports stars engage with wrestling, and that will be happening again next week.
Ariel Helwani has announced via his Twitter that former UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier will serve as guest referee for the upcoming Fight Pit match between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle at WWE Extreme Rules. Cormier is a long time wrestling fan who has talked about doing something with WWE. Extreme Rules is scheduled for next Saturday, October 8.

No, really. This is legit.
“The Rollins-Riddle feud has gotten very intense and personal. There’s only one person qualified enough to oversee this brutal match at Xtreme Rules and it’s me. I’ll see you guys in Philly next Saturday.”
– @dc_mma, special freakin’ guest ref.

Opinion: That is the kind of special guest that makes a lot of sense as Cormier not only fits in with this kind of match but also has the background that might make some outside fans give WWE a look. Cormier has wanted to do something with wrestling for a good while and it was always about trying to find the right spot. I’m not sure if there is a better option than this so it should go pretty well.
What do you think of the idea? How will the match go? Let us know in the comments below.
