That’s a big deal. Wrestling is a popular sport worldwide but there are certainly sports that are more prominent. Due to its scripted nature, wrestling is often seen as more entertainment than a sport, which is a fair criticism. Several mainstream athletes are known wrestling fans though, and one of them was nearly involved in this weekend’s WrestleMania 36.

Last year at Crown Jewel 2019, former boxing champion Tyson Fury wrestled a match against Braun Strowman. The match was presented as one of the major events of the show as Fury was more of an international star than anyone else performing at Crown Jewel. Since then, Fury has gone on to even more prominence by becoming the World Heavyweight Champion once again. As a result, WWE would value him even more, and they almost had him.

In an interview with TalkSport, Fury was scheduled to be part of WrestleMania 36 but was unable to do so due to the spread of the Coronavirus. It is not known what Fury would have been doing at the show, though he has expressed interest in wrestling again. Fury did go on to challenge new WWE Champion Drew McIntyre to a match, though it is not clear when he would be able to wrestle another match. Fury’s third fight with Deontay Wilder is scheduled for sometime this fall.

Fury had some time in wrestling. Check out what he did in the other squared circle:

Opinion: Fury is the kind of sports star that WWE would have loved to put in the ring at WrestleMania and for good reason. He’s big, he has a huge personality, he’s a mainstream star and someone who seems to “get” wrestling. That’s the kind of thing that you can’t get that often and if WWE can do something like this, I’ll certainly take it over some kind of a reality star in the ring.

Who would you have wanted to see Fury face at WrestleMania? Will he wrestle again in the future? Let us know in the comments below.
