A different role. There are all kinds of people who come together to make a wrestling match work and some of them are people you will not frequently seen on television. These are the people who help put the matches together in one way or another and they are often former wrestlers. In this case, we have a current wrestler filling in that role for a new kind of WWE show.

According to Fightful Select, SmackDown star Pete Dunne was listed as the sole producer for the two matches taped for WWE Speed before this week’s SmackDown taping. This appears to be Dunne’s first time working as a producer in WWE and it is not clear if he will be doing the same job in the future. Dunne is also currently the only active wrestler who has served as a producer in WWE. It is not clear when exactly WWE Speed will air, though it has been announced for X this spring.

Opinion: That is quite the odd twist and it says a lot for what WWE thinks of Dunne. He is only 30 years old and is being trusted with putting together matches for WWE programming. I could go for seeing what he could do as it is the definition of adding in some fresh blood to the producers’ pool. It should be interesting to see how his matches go, as it could make for a good change.
