He’s up next. Titles are what make the wrestling world go round and they have been for a very long time now. It isn’t hard to figure out: wrestlers win titles and other wrestlers want them, either for the money and fame that come with them or just for the sake of competition. A lot of stories in wrestling revolve around titles and now we have another one coming up.

Back at WrestleMania 36, Drew McIntyre defeated Brock Lesnar to become the new WWE Champion for the first time. McIntyre held the title for most of the year, lost it to Randy Orton for a few weeks, and then won it back earlier this month. That sets McIntyre up as champion going into the new year. He has one more pay per view title defense to make though and now he has an opponent.

This week on Monday Night Raw, AJ Styles won a triple threat match to become the new #1 contender to the WWE Championship. Styles defeated Riddle and Keith Lee to earn the title shot by pinning Riddle after a Phenomenal Forearm. Styles’ title shot will take place on December 20 at Tables, Ladders And Chairs. The match will be their first ever televised singles match.

It took some time to get there. Check out how the #1 contenders match went down:

Opinion: Given the circumstances involving Braun Strowman being injured, this is the situation that makes the most sense. Styles is the kind of wrestler you can put into any spot on the roster and he is going to do well. You don’t want Lee taking another loss and Riddle isn’t ready for this spot, so going with what Styles is the best possible option for everyone involved.

What do you expect from the match? Who leaves with the title? Let us know in the comments below.
