History has been made. We are wrapping up one of the most eventful years in a very long time and that means things are going to be picking up in the wrestling world. That is certainly the case in WWE, where the Road to WrestleMania is beginning. At the same time though, WWE wants to end 2020 in a big way and that is exactly how they finished one of the last shows of the year.
Things have been changing in WWE as of late and there are some chances for wrestlers to be elevated up to the top of the roster. That is especially the case on SmackDown, which is desperate for high level babyfaces. Someone could move into one of those spots in a hurry and that seems to be the case with one star in particular, as he got quite the upgrade on Christmas night.
This week on SmackDown, Big E. defeated Sami Zayn in the main event to become the new Intercontinental Champion. This is Big E.’s second reign with the title, which he won for the first time in 2013 and held for and held for over five months. The win comes as Big E. has been rumored to move into the main event scene on SmackDown, though there is no word on what is next for him after his title reign.
Opinion: While Big E. has been the champion before, this is a little bit different as it comes after the New Day run. Big E. seems like he could be a top star for a REstime to come and he has to do something to establish himself as a singles star early on. That is the point of giving him the title but now all that matters is the follow up. If WWE treats him like so many previous champions and does nothing with him, none of this is going to matter whatsoever.
