There goes the gold. Titles are the symbol of greatness in wrestling but that does not come out of nowhere. Every championship has to be introduced at some point though and that means you need to find a way to make them look important. One of the best ways to do this is to have champions fight over them, which is something NXT took care of during this week’s show.

Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae won the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles from Shotzi Blackheart/Ember Moon during the main event of this week’s NXT. The title change came in a street fight, with LeRae pinning Blackheart after a Wicked Stepsister onto a steel chair. This makes Hartwell and LeRae the third champions in the history of the titles, which were established on March 10 of this year.

It was a heck of a fight. Check out how the match went down:

Blackheart & Moon vs. The Way – NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship Street Fight: WWE NXT, May 4, 2021

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that almost had to happen as there was no reason to keep the titles on Moon and Blackheart any longer. They were thrown together for the Dusty Classic so there was no need to have them be long term champions. The Way is a more established team so they can go out and defend the titles against other teams and put another over later on.

The thing to remember about these titles is that they are still very young. Moon and Blackheart were the first teams to win the titles (remember that Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez were awarded them) so dropping them relatively soon is not a bad thing either. Hopefully the titles get a boost out of the change, as they certainly do need something to help them get rolling.

What do you think of the title change? How long will the Way hold the titles? Let us know in the comments below.
