History has been made! There are a lot of titles in WWE and that has been the case for a long time now. Titles are a great way to establish someone as a big deal because they’re a really simple concept: put a shiny belt on someone and the fans will accept them as a big deal. That works whether the title is made of gold or silver and now two people have a new title each.

The New Day has been around for about six years now and they have dominated the tag team scene for a long stretch of their time as a team. That makes them a rather entertaining team to watch, partially because they are that talented and partially because they keep coming up with ways to reinvent themselves. With so many title reigns, you have to lose at some point though and that was the case this weekend.

On Sunday at Extreme Rules, Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura defeated New Day to win the SmackDown Tag Team Titles. The match was a tables match, with Cesaro winning the match for his team with a powerbomb to put Kofi Kingston through two tables. The win marks Cesaro’s seventh Tag Team Title reign with his fourth partner, while it is Nakamura’s first win.

It’s a big match. Check out part of the title match:

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that has to happen at some point as New Day seems to have been ready to move on from the tag team division for years now. Cesaro and Nakamura aren’t likely to be the big new team, but at the same time WWE needs some fresh teams at some point so the two of them are as good as anyone else we could get at the moment. If nothing else they’re different, and that’s an improvement right now.
