That’s the first one. We are less than two weeks removed from WrestleMania 40 and that means it is time to move forward with everything. The big story coming out of WrestleMania was Cody Rhodes being crowned the new WWE Universal Champion. Rhodes finally defeated Roman Reigns to win the title, but now he has to defend it. Now we know who will be up first for the new champ.

This week on SmackDown, AJ Styles defeated LA Knight to become the new #1 contender to Rhodes’ WWE Universal Title. The two qualified for the #1 contenders match by winning triple threat matches last week. The match will take place at Backlash in Lyon, France on May 4 in Rhodes’ first televised title defense since becoming champion. This will be their first ever match against each other.

Rhodes is going to have his hands full. Check out what is waiting for the new champ:

Opinion: This is the kind of move that makes sense as Styles can give Rhodes a good first title defense while not coming off as the most serious threat. Styles is someone talented enough to make anyone in there look better and that is what he’ll do against Rhodes. I’m not wild on Styles defeating Knight so soon after Knight beat him at WrestleMania, but at least it’s a split rather than Styles beating him twice.
