The crowns. There are several different honors and prizes to win in wrestling and some of them have been around for a long time. Occasionally you will see them go away for a long time before seeing them make a comeback. That is the case with a WWE concept that started back in the 1980s but is becoming somewhat more frequent. Now we have a new winner of the concept, plus more.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Hand It Over: New Champion Crowned At WWE King And Queen Of The Ring
Over the weekend, WWE held its King And Queen Of The Ring event, with the finals of both namesake tournaments. First, SmackDown’s Nia Jax won the Queen Of The Ring tournament, defeating Lyra Valkyria. Second, Monday Night Raw’s Gunther defeated Randy Orton to win the King Of The Ring. As a result, both will receive World Title shots against their respective brand’s champion at Summerslam on August 3.
It was a busy show. Check out the tournament finals plus the rest of the show:
Opinion: These are logical winners and it makes sense to have Gunther and Jax, both of whom are seen as monsters, waiting for the champions at Summerslam. I’m curious to see how the title matches go, but what matters at the moment is both of them won something valuable. WWE has made the tournaments feel more important with the title shots being added and it wouldn’t stun me to see that be a regular feature going forward.
What do you think of the results? How will the title matches go? Let us know in the comments below.
