They had an idea. Injuries can do quite a few things to wrestlers, including putting them out of the ring for a rather long time. This can cause multiple issues for wrestling promotions, but there are times when they are known in advance, allowing the company to do something different. That is the case again, but now things are a bit more confusing than expected.

WWE is currently running the King and Queen Of The Ring tournaments with sixteen entrants each. However, there have been multiple wrestlers pulled from the tournaments due to injuries, requiring replacements. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE knew about Bobby Lashley and Zelina Vega’s injuries “well in advance”. While not confirmed, this would suggest that WWE knew about the injuries before they were announced for the tournaments. Lashley and Vega were replaced by Angelo Dawkins and Maxxine Dupri respectively.

Opinion: That’s certainly an interesting way to go, as WWE very well might have known that Lashley and Vega were not going to be able to compete when the tournaments were announced. Maybe they were expecting or hoping that the two could wrestle, but otherwise it is not the best way to go as it is at least somewhat disappointing given what we were told we would be seeing.
