Maybe? There have been all kinds of changes taking place in the wrestling world as of late but not all of them have involved WWE. One of the biggest non-WWE wrestling stories of the year was CM Punk being fired from AEW. Punk’s tenure with the company came to an end after a series of issues between the two sides. This has left Punk’s future in wrestling up in the air, but now someone has said something interesting.

WWE executive Shawn Michaels took part in a media call this week to promote this weekend’s NXT No Mercy event. During the call, Michaels was asked about the possibility of Punk coming to NXT. Michaels said that he would love to have Punk in NXT but felt that if he returned to WWE, it would likely be on the main roster. He went on to talk about the similarities he shared with Punk, mentioning that both of them could be seen as difficult backstage. Michaels went on to call Punk someone that “does numbers and makes money”. There is nothing to suggest that Punk will return to WWE, though he is now free to do so.

They did work together. Check out one of Punk’s only interactions with Michaels, plus more of Punk in WWE:

Opinion: While Michaels is pretty clearly just responding to a question asked of him, it does sound strange to hear Punk’s name mentioned by someone in WWE these days. Punk was a big star in WWE, but that was almost ten years ago now. I’m not sure I can imagine him returning, but the fact that there is a chance of it happening makes things all the more interesting these days.
