The new generation? WWE is like any other wrestling promotion, in that at some point the company is going to need to restock its roster. The promotion needs to bring in some new wrestlers, some of whom already have experience wrestling. While the company already has the NIL program to find athletes in college, now a new program is going to be looking somewhere more traditional.

WWE has announced a new program called WWE Independent Development (ID), which is “designed to provide up-and-coming independent wrestlers a pathway to a potential career in WWE”. Certain wrestling schools will be named official WWE ID schools with certain wrestlers being signed to the program. These wrestlers will receive financial assistance from WWE, as well as access to WWE’s training facilities and mentoring. Here are the first schools to officially be designated as part of the program:
• Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling (Houston)
• Cody Rhodes’ Nightmare Factory (Atlanta)
• Seth Rollins’ Black and Brave Academy (Davenport, Iowa)
• Elite Pro Wrestling Training Center (Concord, N.H.)
• KnokX Pro Academy (Los Angeles)
There is no word on how frequently more schools will be added.

Opinion: This is something that WWE is going to be doing going forward and it makes sense. Not only does it bring in fresh talent to the company, but it can also prevent those stars from signing elsewhere. WWE could be finding their next generation of stars and that is something that they are going to need to do at some point. Giving WWE an official path to do this should open things up for the future and they seem to have that in mind.
