He would know. WrestleMania is the biggest wrestling event of the year and WWE knows how to bring in as many stars as it can. This includes various legends, as the company often has several former stars added to the show. While it is not always the case, these wrestlers often wrestle full matches on the card, though now we know why that did not take place this week.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Even Longer: Injured 45 Year Old Former Champion Not Expected To Make WWE Return Soon

Steve Austin had been rumored to wrestle a match at WrestleMania 39, just as he did last year with Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38. Austin spoke to Sports Illustrated about the match, revealing that he did have discussions with WWE. His biggest concern was the presentation, including getting in peak physical condition. However, due to his filming commitments for Steve Austin Takes On America, Austin did not feel he was able to have time to get in proper shape. While Austin did not say who he was pitched to face, he said that the setup would not have protected him as well as his match with Owens did.

Austin has already had a pretty strong highlight reel. Check out some of his better moments:

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that makes sense, as Austin is known for wanting to protect his legacy. As a result, it isn’t surprising that he does not want to risk looking bad in such a situation. The match with Owens went so well that it very well may be the perfect way for him to wrap up his in-ring career for good. If Austin cannot get to the level he wants to reach, there is nothing wrong with wanting to avoid getting back in the ring.
