It’s a violent sport. There are all kinds of ways a wrestler can get hurt in the ring, but if they can get through a match, the trick is to hide their injuries as well as possible. That is one of the hardest parts, but it can make the stories about how the wrestlers made it work all the more impressive. That was the situation again recently, as an AEW star was a lot more injured during a match than she let on.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Farewell: AEW Star Reportedly Leaving Company After Three Year Run
Back on the January 13, 2023 Rampage, Tay Melo and Anna Jay were defeated by Willow Nightingale and Ruby Soho in a street fight. Melo was recently interviewed by Elite POV and revealed that she had been suffering from a back injury before the match, which was made worse during the match. The injury has been a problem for over ten years, including leaving her in a wheelchair in the airport the day before the match. Melo was able to wrestle the match but has not been medically cleared to wrestle since. There is no word on when she will be able to return to the ring, but she said it would be “really soon”.
It was a wild match. Check out the street fight, plus more Melo:
Opinion: That is a nasty sounding injury and the kind of thing that could leave Melo out of the ring for a good while. The problem with a back injury is it could flare up again at any time and wrestling in that kind of a street fight is not going to make it any better. Hopefully she is back in the ring a lot sooner than later, as Melo is a very talented star who could do a lot of things for AEW if she is healthy.
