That’s That: Long Term WWE Storyline Dropped Completely

So much for that. With so many things taking place on WWE television at any given time, it can be hard to keep track of everything. There are always going to be some stories that fall through the cracks, but that does not make things any better for the people involved. Unfortunately it seems to be the case again, as a story that took some time building has been dropped.

One of the bigger stories from 2020 was the war between Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio. The two fought for several months and many other people, including family members, were dragged into it. The story finally came to a conclusion with Mysterio defeating Rollins, but there was another aspect to the whole thing, with a bit of a Romeo and Juliet story tied in. Now, that part is meeting the same fate.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the romantic story between Murphy and Aalyah Mysterio has been dropped. There is no word on why the story was dropped, though the likely reason is WWE creative could not think of a direction for the story. Murphy returned to SmackDown last week and stood ringside with other wrestlers during Rollins’ return. He has not wrestled since the December 4, 2020 SmackDown.

Opinion: This is one of those always annoying things about WWE: how can they not come up with something after setting up a story this long? Was there no long term planning after it was started? Also, why does Murphy have to sit on the sidelines for two months and lose any momentum he had because no one could think of anything? It comes off like there is no long or even medium term planning and that’s annoying to hear over and over.
