What could have been. There are all kinds of things that take place on any given edition of WWE TV. Some of those things are ideas that can happen in one night while others take several weeks to complete. It can be interesting to see where the stories go, but this time around, we are not even seeing the story take place at all, as the original plans for this week were scrapped.

According to Fightful Select, a tournament to crown a new #1 contender for the Raw Women’s Title was scheduled to begin this week on Monday Night Raw. There were two triple threat matches, featuring Liv Morgan vs. Dakota Kai vs. Piper Niven and Candice LeRae vs. Raquel Rodriguez vs. Iyo Sky. Instead, the matches were scrapped and a women’s tag match took place. This news comes amid reports of several Monday Night Raw rewrites this week.

WWE has a history with tournaments. Check out some of them over the years:

Opinion: This feels like it is going to be what we are looking at with Monday Night Raw going forward. Rather than finding something new with a fresh challenger, we had a match between two teams for a title shot despite both of them losing their matches at WrestleMania. I’m not sure where this is going in the future, but it is already feeling like everything has changed.
