He can help things. WWE is not in the best of places at the moment and they need to come up with something to bring the fans back on board. That might not be the easiest thing in the world but one of the best things that they can do is put top stars in prominent places. WWE has the ability to do this at the drop of a hat and that is what they are trying to do again.

There are some wrestlers who are going to get fans’ attention no matter what they are doing. This could be the case for a variety of reasons, but the biggest is often that they have earned the fans’ respect. Some wrestlers just command attention and that is the case with a handful of people on the active roster today. One such name is getting another prominent role.

This week on SmackDown, WWE announced that AJ Styles will be taking part in the tournament to crown a new Intercontinental Champion. Styles is the only Monday Night Raw wrestler taking part in the tournament along with seven SmackDown wrestlers. His first round opponent will be Shinsuke Nakamura on the May 22 SmackDown. Styles has never held the Intercontinental Title, which was vacated on Monday due to Sami Zayn not returning to television. There is no word on if this is a permanent change from Monday Night Raw to SmackDown for Styles.

Styles has won his share of titles before. Check out some of his better moments:

Opinion: This is kind of an interesting choice but it also sounds like a way around the Brand For Brand rule. Instead of having Styles using up some of his appearances on SmackDown, he is there as part of a tournament, giving WWE some extra appearances. That might not be the most realistic idea in the world, but seeing Styles in the ring is not a bad idea at any time.
