Surprise: WWE Hall Of Famer Set For Special Role Next Week On AEW Collision

The special guest. There are all kinds of legends in wrestling but only a small handful are remembered fondly over the years. It is rare to see someone who is almost universally respected in wrestling but those who achieve such a status can make quite the impact when they get involved with something. Now we are going to get to see one of them again rather soon.

This weekend at AEW Collision, CM Punk declared himself the undefeated AEW World Champion and held up his own World Title belt. Punk went on to call out Ricky Starks and agreed to face him the following week in a title match. However, having been cheated by Starks in two previous losses, Punk wanted to name a special guest referee and chose WWE Hall Of Famer Ricky Steamboat. This will be Steamboat’s second AEW appearance following a stint as guest timekeeper on the August 17, 2022 edition of Dynamite.

Opinion: Steamboat is kind of an odd choice but he will at least get some attention just based on his status. There are few people in wrestling as revered as he is and he does have a bit of a history with Punk. It could be interesting to see what he does, though there is every chance that he will not mean much outside of having a nice presentation from AEW, who likes to do such a thing.
