History has been made! There are a lot of titles in WWE and that opens up a lot of doors. A title is probably the easiest storytelling device in all of wrestling as it’s such a simple concept: take two people, put them in the ring with a championship on the line and you have all you need. That was the case during this weekend’s Elimination Chamber where a title change took place.
Bobby Lashley has been one of the most dominant stars in WWE over the last several months, having held the US Title since August. No one has been able to give him that much of a challenge and that can become a problem when it comes to finding a way to get the title off of him without making Lashley look weak. WWE pulled it off in a surprise way this weekend.
Lashley lost the United States Title this weekend at Elimination Chamber, with Riddle defeating John Morrison to become the new champion. Morrison was added to the match after winning a four way on the Kickoff Show as Keith Lee was ruled out of the match due to an attack by Lashley earlier this month. This is Riddle’s first singles title in WWE, though he was one half of the NXT Tag Team Champions with Pete Dunne.
It’s a different way to go. Check out the new champ and how Morrison got here:
Opinion: This is a good move as Riddle has been needing that breakthrough win for a long time now. The interesting part is Lashley though, as there is almost nothing left for him to do other than move up to the main event scene. Unless he is going to put Riddle over in a singles match, they might as well have him as the first challenger to the champion after Riddle. Is there anyone else worthy of the spot?
