Stunning Ending To SmackDown Sets Up Roman Reigns’ #1 Contender

That came out of nowhere. Like anything else, there are certain wrestling families who are more prominent than others. Some of the biggest families are well known by most fans and it is interesting to see those families come together, either as friends or enemies, on TV. We are seeing the same thing taking place soon, and it is something that not many people would have guessed.

Sunday at Payback, Roman Reigns returned to the ring for the first time in about six months, winning the Universal Title in the process. Reigns is now a heel for the first time in several years and has Paul Heyman in his corner. Now he is champion again and gets to defend the title, starting at Clash Of Champions. He needs a new challenger though, and now we know who that is.

This week on SmackDown, Jey Uso won a #1 contenders match to earn the shot at Reigns at Clash Of Champions. The match also featured Sheamus, Matt Riddle and King Corbin, with Uso pinning Riddle off a Superfly Splash. Uso was a replacement for Big E., who was attacked earlier in the night by Sheamus to put him out of the match. This will be Uso’s first ever Universal Title shot.

Opinion: This was one of the bigger surprises in a good while and that leaves a few questions. I would not be surprised if Uso wound up being replaced in the match before it takes place, or if the match lasts more than five minutes should it actually happen. What matters most here is the fact that they are doing something different, which means that the Fiend, who is likely to be the serious challenger, doesn’t have a match burned off so quickly.
