I’d call him a fascinating subject. Wrestling has changed quite a bit in the last few years as several more outlets have been producing stories and films about the industry. Some of these have been fictional while others have been documentaries but what matters is that wrestling is getting a lore more exposure. That seems to be the case again in a very big way going forward.

There may never be a wrestling star as big as Steve Austin again. Starting in 1997, Austin had a run that has almost never been seen before and likely never will be seen again. Austin became the biggest star in wrestling and a pop culture name as well. That influence is still felt around the wrestling world today and now it is going to be explored in a pretty big way.

During an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Lilian Garcia revealed that Austin will be the subject of an upcoming documentary series. The series will be produced by the same producers of the Last Dance documentary about the Chicago Bulls. Garcia is a friend of Austin’s and will be part of the documentary. There is no word on when or where the documentary will be released or how long it will run.

It’s an interesting interview throughout. Check out Garcia’s interview (the Austin section begins at about 6:00) and some of Austin’s greatness:

Opinion: Works for me. Austin is one of the biggest stars of all time (and you could make a case for the biggest ever) and is more than worthy of something like this. I could go for something big with Austin and while I can’t imagine it lasts the ten hours of the Last Dance, four or five hours could be quite a major investment. Austin is a great storyteller as well, so hopefully we get to hear a lot of what he has done during the documentary.
