It comes with the territory. WWE is in the middle of a variety of changes at the moment and a lot of them have to do with their television schedules. The company’s three main shows will be moving to new homes next year and that is going to create quite the new reality for everyone involved. However, there is still time before that happens and one of the shows might be making a change before then.

FOX Sports has announced that they will begin airing college football games on Friday nights starting at some point this September. According to the Associated Press, these games will be airing to take the place on SmackDown on Friday nights, though they will begin airing before SmackDown moves to the USA Network. As a result, there is a chance that SmackDown may have to move to Fox Sports 1 for the last few weeks of its contract. FOX has not made an announcement about any potential changes to SmackDown.

Opinion: This is one of those things that happens every so often and it comes with being on a major network like FOX. At the end of the day, SmackDown is not going to be on FOX much longer and it makes sense for FOX to want something to take its place. College football is more or less a guaranteed ratings draw and SmackDown very well may have to shift over for a few weeks. It might not be ideal, but it is better than not being on television at all.
