The future? WWE is in an interesting place at the moment. While they are the undisputed kings of the wrestling industry, they are facing some competition for the first time in the form of AEW and some of its audience has faded away. That is the kind of thing that they can only fight for so long so new revenue streams are needed. We might know where things are heading.

About six years ago, the WWE Network was launched and changed the wrestling world forever. Now you can watch most of the WWE library plus every live pay per view for the simple price of $9.99 a month (at least in the United States). That is the kind of thing that the fans could get behind in a hurry and that certainly was the case here. However, things might be changing soon.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is in talks with ESPN to add at least some of its pay per view events to the ESPN+ service. ESPN+ currently handles UFC pay per view events, which require fans to subscribe to ESPN+ before buying the individual pay per views. There is no word on how WWE pay per views would be priced, how many would be on the service or when any such change would take place.

WWE has worked with ESPN before. Check out some of their partnerships:

Opinion: I’m not liking the sound of this as it seems like it is going to end up costing fans more money. That’s going to be a rather risky move as WWE fans have gotten used to paying $9.99 a month for everything, so asking them to pay a good bit more than that every month is asking quite a bit. I’m not saying it won’t work, but WWE has been asking its fans to do a lot over the years and this might be too much.

Do you see this working? Would you buy WWE pay per views at an increased price? Let us know in the comments below.
