Showdown: Gunther’s WrestleMania 40 Challenger Officially Set Following Grueling Gauntlet Match

He’s in. We are less than a month away from WrestleMania 40 and most of the card has already been put together. There are several title matches already set, though there are still some matches that need to be covered. This includes finding challengers for some reigning champions, with one of the more prominent singles title shots being filled in this week.

Sami Zayn earned an Intercontinental Title shot against Gunther at WrestleMania this week on Monday Night Raw by winning a six man gauntlet match. Zayn last eliminated Chad Gable to win the match, which also involved Ricochet, JD McDonagh, Bronson Reed and Shinsuke Nakamura. This comes after Zayn has spent weeks trying to find a way to become a champion this year.

Opinion: This makes the most sense of the options available and I’m curious to see what they are going to do at WrestleMania. Zayn is someone who can get a crowd behind him like few others and that is exactly what you want in an opponent for Gunther. It will be a David vs. Goliath match and it wouldn’t shock me to see Zayn finally being the one to slay the monster and take the title.
