So much for the gold. We are in the middle of a pretty weird time in wrestling and that might not be getting back to normal for a good while. One of the biggest changes has been the demise of the original version of Ring of Honor. The promotion has been around for nearly twenty years and now it seems that things are never going to be the same again. Now we have another change to go with it.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ring of Honor will be focusing on its World Title, Women’s Title and Tag Team Titles. As a result, the company will be retiring its Television Title (currently held by Rhett Titus), the Pure Title (Josh Woods) and the Six Man Tag Team Titles (the Righteous). The three remaining titles will be treated as traveling championship with Jonathan Gresham, Deonna Purrazzo and the Briscoes defending the championships in various promotions. These matches will serve as the Ring of Honor television show when Ring of Honor returns in April.
Those are some big titles to lose. Check out some of their defenses:
Opinion: This is the kind of thing you kind of had to know was coming, but it is still hard to see. Ring of Honor does seem to be done now and there very well might be no coming back from this one. If nothing else, it doesn’t sound like it is going to be much of a television show when it returns. Hopefully something works out, but that does not exactly sound likely at the moment.
What do you think of the changes? How will the remaining titles go? Let us know in the comments below.
