More to come as they say. NXT is one of the most unique wrestling shows in the world as it exists both on its own and as the official developmental territory for WWE. In theory, wrestlers appear on NXT for the sake of moving up to the main roster at some point in the future. That is not always the case, though it seems like we are coming up on something similar again.

According to Fightful Select, there are multiple callups expected for both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown, with names from both NXT and NXT UK expected to debut. There is no word on which names these might be, or when the debuts will take place. This comes after former NXT star Rick Boogs made his debut last week on SmackDown, appearing as Shinsuke Nakamura’s guitar player.

This has potential. Check out how some debuts have gone:

Rick Boogs plays Shinsuke Nakamura to the ring to face King Corbin: SmackDown, May 21, 2021

NXT Superstars’ surprise debuts: NXT Top 5, Sept. 29, 2019

Opinion: I never know what to think of something like this as there has been quite the bad track record for a lot of NXT debuts. Some of them have worked well, but there are probably more instances where things started out well and then fell apart in a hurry. For some reason, these people who do well in NXT do not wind up doing so well on the main roster, which is both quite the shame as well as disappointing.

One thing that might help is having more names like Boogs debut. While he has a really simple gimmick, Boogs is not someone who was a big star in NXT. He only made a handful of appearances and then, after about six months away, showed up on SmackDown with no build or hype. That made for something a bit more interesting and fans have not seen him run into the ground yet. Maybe that is the trick to the whole thing.
