That’s a different way to go. We are coming up on the annual Elimination Chamber event and that means there is going to be a rush for wrestlers to get involved. With so little time left before the pay per view, WWE only has one of the show’s namesake matches announced to date. That changed during this week’s SmackDown, but the setup is a little different than usual.
SmackDown’s Roman Reigns has been the Universal Champion since August and there is little reason to believe that he will be losing the title anytime soon. There are very few people on the SmackDown roster who can offer a serious threat to him and WWE seems to understand. That is why they are trying to give him a new challenger and now we know who that might be.
This week on SmackDown, WWE official Adam Pearce announced the SmackDown Elimination Chamber match, which will feature six men vying to become the #1 contender for the Universal Title. The title match will come on the same night. The match was originally planned to feature Reigns but Paul Heyman would not allow it. Pearce named Jey Uso and Kevin Owens to the match, with Sami Zayn, King Corbin, Cesaro and Daniel Bryan qualifying for the match by winning qualifying matches.
Opinion: This is a little bit different and that is a good thing this time around. I’m not sure how the night is going to go, but Cesaro and Owens would seem to be likely candidates to win. If nothing else, ti is nice to see Reigns defending the title as almost anything he does at this point is gold. I like the idea here and hopefully everything goes as well as it could be going.
