What could have been. There have been all kinds of wrestlers over the course of WWE’s history and some of them only made so much of an impact. At the same time, some of those wrestlers who might not have had the most successful careers may come back later on for a special moment. Now a former WWE Superstar is talking about how he almost went back to the company in a rather different role.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Down For Now: AEW Star Announces He Has Suffered A Torn Hamstring

In a new video on his YouTube channel, former WWE Superstar Maven revealed that he was supposed to return to WWE as a broadcaster in 2020. Maven spoke about how he reached out to WWE in 2019 in an attempt to get back into the company in some way. Using D-Von Dudley as a contact, Maven was brought down to the Performance Center where he was able to call some matches in a backstage room.

Tom Phillips and Michael Cole discussed Maven’s potential future with the company, with plans for him to train and prepare for 6-12 months before premiering on television Maven agreed, but the Coronavirus pandemic canceled the plans, as WWE stopped running live events and used as small of a crew as possible for the next several months. There is no word on if Maven will work for WWE in the future.

It was quite the story. Check out Maven’s story, plus his time in WWE:

Opinion: This is one of those “what could have been” situations as there are all kinds of former wrestlers who pop up in such a role every so often. Byron Saxton is someone who came back to NXT after years away and is still around in various roles. I can believe that Maven was a long term project for WWE, and I can also believe that the pandemic shook up all the plans.
