Well it’s a better name. You’re familiar with WrestleMania right? You know, biggest show of the year, most important wrestling event ever and that show that sells out a 70,000 person stadium every year? It’s true that it’s a big deal, but it’s far from the first annual supershow in wrestling history. That would be Starrcade, which debuted in 1983 and ran annually until 2000. WWE brought it back last year and now they might be doing even more with it.

Starrcade is returning again this year with the event taking place on November 24 at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. Bringing the show back wasn’t the big story, but according to PW Insider Elite by way of Ringsidenews.com, there is a reason to believe that this year’s Starrcade will be airing on the WWE Network, mainly due to the increased prices of the show. Here is the theory behind the idea:

“I also asked if Starrcade would be airing on the WWE Network on November 26th and my gut feeling is that maybe it will. Because the primary top ticket is $315 for ringside seats at a price they don’t charge that big of a premium for ringside seats for WWE house shows. That means to me that since it’s Starrcade branded that it will be some sort of television event and they’ll have the take-home chairs that everybody gets to take home when they sit ringside at a pay-per-view. So my gut feeling is that Starrcade will air live on WWE Network this year.”

Opinion: As someone who will likely be going to the show, I’m rather pleased with the idea of Starrcade getting this kind of treatment. WWE has all these copyrighted names sitting around and we’re stuck with generic names like Payback, Extreme Rules and Backlash. Mix things up a bit and see what they can do with something a little more creative. Yes WCW thought of the names in the first place, but WWE is the one making money off of them now. Why is that such a horrible idea?

Do you think Starrcade will be on the Network? Which other WCW shows would you like to see come back? Let us know in the comments below.
