It’s up in the air. We are in completely uncharted territory in the wrestling world at the moment as it is not clear when anything is going to be back to normal again. There has not been a traditional paid fan in a WWE arena in three months and there is no reason to believe that things are going to get better anytime soon. That means more changes are likely, including to a pretty important show.

WWE has a long history of building its year around major pay per views. The Big Four are well known by most fans and these shows have been pillars of the company for over thirty years. It would be weird to imagine a WWE without them, but we are looking at a year where they will not be taking place in a normal setting. That was the case for WrestleMania 36 and it may be the case for another show soon.

According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, WWE is currently “very much unsure” about being able to run Summerslam in front of an audience with fans. The company has been trying to find a venue that would allow the show to have fans in attendance but may be forced to run the event at the Performance Center. This comes after Boston, Massachusetts Mayor Marty Walsh announced that fans would not be allowed to attend sporting events until later this year. Summerslam is scheduled for August 23.

Summerslam works well with fans. Check out some of its highlights over the years:

Opinion: I can’t say I’m surprised by this as Summerslam in front of fans seemed a bit optimistic. There are only so many ways you can get fans into a building at the moment and that does not seem to be changing anytime in the near future. WWE will do everything they can to find a way around this, but I really can’t imagine they can pull it off, at least not on any kind of a big scale.

What are you expecting for Summerslam? Will there be fans in attendance? Let us know in the comments below.
