It’s a big plan. We are less than two months removed from WrestleMania 39 and the show was one of the biggest that WWE has presented in years. As tends to be the case, the show’s main event was the most important of the two day stretch, as Roman Reigns successfully defended his Universal WWE Title against Cody Rhodes. That leaves Reigns more wide open, and now we have an idea of what might be next for him.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the long term plan for Reigns is another match with Rhodes, with WrestleMania 40 in April 2024 being a possibility. However, it was noted that “a lot can happen between now and then”. Reigns is currently dealing with his family in the Bloodline and does not have a next challenger for his title. His next defense is rumored to be at Money In The Bank on July 1.

Opinion: That would certainly be a way to go, but it is also a bit of a strange choice to make. At the end of the day, Reigns defeated Rhodes and it would be hard to come up with a way to get Rhodes as hot as he was going into this year’s WrestleMania. I wouldn’t be opposed to the idea, but egads that would feel like something of an odd path to take given what has happened.
What do you think of the idea? Will WWE do it? Let us know in the comments below.
