That might be all. Celebrities have been a part of wrestling for a very long time and they’re not going away. It makes sense when you think about it. There are so many people in the world that are famous for one thing or another, so bringing them, and their fans in theory, into the wrestling world could benefit both sides. That was the case over the last few months, but it might already be over.
Athletes are some of the best options to bring into a wrestling company and football players make a lot of sense. Football is considered one of the more physical sports in the world and there is something interesting about seeing what happens when they come into another world. WWE tried that over WrestleMania weekend and now it seems that they are wrapping things up.
This week on Monday Night Raw, a video was aired showing R-Truth defeating Rob Gronkowski to win back the 24/7 Title. According to WrestlingInc.com, Gronkowski has exercised the release clause in his contract, meaning that he will not be wrestling for WWE again, at least for the time being. Gronkowski had held the title since WrestleMania 36 when he defeated Mojo Rawley, making him the longest reigning champion in the title’s history.
So long? Check out how R-Truth got his baby back:
Opinion: I’m not sure if you can really call Gronkowski that much of a success in WWE as he came in, won the comedy title, and then pretty much vanished. I’m sure he got some the company some extra attention on ESPN, but I’d hardly call him a big deal. Maybe he’s back later on once his latest NFL run is over, but I can’t imagine many wrestling fans are going to notice he’s gone.
