That’s why. One of the highest profile wrestling stories of the year has been the return and fall of CM Punk. Following nearly a year away due to an injury, Punk returned to the company but was then released due to a series of backstage incidents. This has led to some speculation about Punk’s future in wrestling. We now know a bit more about what WWE is doing about the situation before an important show.

This week on Monday Night Raw, Cody Rhodes teased the fifth member of his WarGames team for this weekend at Survivor Series, which was later confirmed to be Randy Orton. According to Fightful Select, this was done to head off fans expecting Punk at Survivor Series, which will be held in Punk’s hometown of Chicago. In addition, WWE’s stance on Punk has reportedly not changed and he is not expected at the show.

Opinion: That isn’t the biggest surprise as the company would want to slow down as much of the potential Punk hype as possible. Orton is a huge star to have back and the fans went nuts at the idea of having him returning to the ring after a year and a half away. At the same time though, there is the chance that Punk is going to be a focal point of the fans and there might be no way around it.
