That’s not a good thing to hear. There are all kinds of legends in wrestling but it is fairly rare to see a legend getting to be in the ring again. It is even rarer for someone to be in the ring decades after they have reached that top level. That was the case last month when Ric Flair wrestled his last match at 73 years old. However, things did not go as planned multiple times during the match.
During the latest edition of his To Be The Man podcast, Flair discussed his last match, revealing some health issues he had throughout the match. Flair revealed that he blacked out during the match twice, including standing on the apron and later in the match when he had been hit with a guitar. Flair said that before the match, he had not hydrated properly in order to cut weight and blamed the blackouts on a combination of nerves and dehydration. Following the match, Flair drank two bottles of Gatorade and was medically cleared.
Opinion: Anytime a statement includes the idea of blacking out twice, something is not going right. Flair might have been able to power through a match like this in his prime, but there is a bit of a difference when he is in his 70s. That match was difficult to watch at times and I hope he doesn’t do it again, because he might not be so lucky if there is a next time.
