That is some serious praise. Wrestlers are in a different universe when it comes to celebrity status. It’s true that they are on television every week but they are often only going to be seen as wrestlers. That makes it a lot harder to achieve major celebrity status, but some manage to make the step up. It can be different outside of America though and that is the case again for a wrestling legend.
There may never be a bigger lucha libre star than Rey Mysterio. While he was born in America, Mysterio is often associated with the lucha libre style and first made a name for himself in Mexico. He would come to WWE in 2002 and become the most successful cruiserweight of all time, winning multiple World Titles throughout his career. Now that his time in the ring is coming to a close, Mysterio is being honored in a very unique way.
According to Lucha Central, an animated series based on Mysterio will be airing on Cartoon Network Latin America. The series will involve Mysterio fighting to defend Earth from evil with the help of his #1 fan. Mysterio praised the idea, saying that he had wanted an animated series throughout his career. There is no word on when the series will air or if it will be available in the United States.
Mysterio is already a legend. Check out some of the bigger moments of his career:
Opinion: That’s rather cool and one of the more unique honors you will see. Mysterio is not the first wrestler to have his own series, but I think this might be a little higher quality than Hulk Hogan’s Rock N Wrestling. This could be a lot of fun and even if it does not last long, it is pretty impressive that it is even being made in the first place. Mysterio has earned the honor and it’s cool to see him getting something like this.
