History has been changed! Roman Reigns has been the Universal Champion for over three years now and has climbed almost to the top of the list of longest reigning champions in WWE history. WWE regularly mentions how high Reigns is on the list, but now it seems that he has moved up a bit, despite not actually surpassing anyone else, as WWE has changed its history.

Over the weekend at WWE Crown Jewel, commentary mentioned that only two people, Bruno Sammartino and Hulk Hogan, had held a title longer than Reigns. This would suggest that WWE has removed Bob Backlund, whose five year title reign was interrupted by a reign that has not been acknowledged by WWE over the years. However, there is the chance that WWE simply made a mistake, as Backlund’s interrupted reign (1,470 days) would still be longer than Reigns’ current time with the title (1,162+).
There is a lot to be seen. Check out Backlund and Reigns as champion:
Opinion: I’m not sure what is going on with this but there is a good chance that WWE has just forgotten to mention Backlund. Even the uninterrupted reign puts Backlund nearly another year ahead of Reigns and it isn’t like there is any major discrepancy to what happened. For now though, Reigns is still on his way up the ladder and it could be fascinating to see just how far he can go.
