Welcome home. The Coronavirus pandemic has changed just about everything in the wrestling world, with one of the biggest changes being the lack of fans in the buildings for television shows. WWE has felt the problem in a big way, though they have used NXT wrestlers for a bit of a reprieve. However, they now might have another idea that could help things out in a pretty big way.
While WWE has added in their employees as a crowd, there is only so much that can be gained from them. Not only are there just a few of them, but there is also the feeling that the people are going to do exactly as WWE asks of them. That doesn’t exactly feel authentic, so having someone else involved could help. WWE did something about that on Monday.
According to Wrestlinginc.com, there were some non-WWE employees in the audience along with the NXT wrestlers at this week’s Monday Night Raw taping. These fans were required to sign waivers agreeing to not take photos or reveal spoilers, with WWE giving them a free t-shirt as a result. The fans also had to have their temperature checked and answer a Covid-19 questionnaire, the same things that WWE talent must do. They were also required to sign a waiver saying that WWE was not responsible if they contracted the Coronavirus.
Crowds can play a big role. Check out how many fans you can spot on the show:
Opinion: This is a bit of a good sign for the future. If things go well with this small group, maybe the next step is having some bleachers set up with fans mixed in with the wrestlers. Then maybe there is no need for wrestlers whatsoever. It could take time to get there, but at least they are starting something. One big setback could reset things for a long time, but they have to start somewhere.
