They have a plan. Last week’s AEW Dynamite saw Sting make his debut for the company. This was one of the biggest surprises that AEW has managed to present in its history, giving the fans quite the shock when Sting actually appeared. It marked his first major appearance for a wrestling promotion in years and immediately brought up some questions. Now we have a few answers.
In addition to being sixty one years old, Sting’s in-ring career was ended due to a neck and spine injury that took place during a match against Seth Rollins at Night Of Champions 2015. While some wrestlers have been able to continue their careers despite the injury, Sting had announced his retirement, leaving people wondering what exactly he is going to do in AEW.
According to Sports Illustrated, there are plans for Sting to wrestle in AEW. Rather than regular singles matches though, Sting will be participating in cinematic matches, tag matches and in select spots where he can be used to help get AEW’s younger wrestlers over. There is no word on when Sting’s first match will be or what he will be doing. Sting’s debut took place last week on AEW Dynamite when he saved Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin from Team Taz.
I think it worked. Check out how Sting made his AEW debut:
Opinion: I’m not sure how this is going to go but the idea of Sting, who is very banged up and is older than almost all wrestlers, wrestling is going to take a lot of things going right. AEW can make it work, but at the same time I’m not sure how much it needs to be happening. Sting has been around for over thirty years and I don’t know how much we need to see him in the ring again.
