That’s something you never forget. Last fall, Paige returned to the ring after over a year on the injured list. Unfortunately her comeback only lasted a few months before she was injured again at a show in December. That would be her last match as she announced her retirement from in-ring competition on the Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania 34 earlier this year. Paige went on to become the SmackDown Live General Manager, but there’s still a story to be told about the injury.

The injury lead to this.

Paige gives an emotional retirement speech: Raw, April 9, 2018

Paige recently appeared on the E&C Pod of Awesomeness to discuss a variety of topics, with her injury being a major topic of conversation. The three were all in similar situations as both Edge and Christian have also been forced into retirement due to a variety of injuries with Edge having a neck issue and Christian having a history of concussions. Here are Paige’s comments on her injury, with transcription courtesy of WrestleZone.com:

“When the accident happened in the ring, I lost all feeling in my legs and my arms. It was literally the most terrifying experience of my life and I never wish that upon anyone. It was so scary. I literally thought, ‘I’m done. I’m going to be in a wheelchair now. This is it. I pushed myself too much.’ I really did. I feel like I pushed myself too hard to the point where my body was done.”

Opinion: I can’t imagine that feeling and hopefully I (or anyone for that matter) ever will. I’m not the biggest Paige fan in the world but no one deserves to wind up in that kind of situation. Paige was very lucky in that it was only her career was ended and she’s still able to walk around. She’s done well with the General Manager role and hopefully she can do this for a long time before finding something else to do with the rest of her life.
