What could have been. One of the things that wrestling fans tend to enjoy doing is booking shows themselves. At one point or another, every wrestling fan has tried their hands at fantasy booking, just for the sake of seeing what kinds of ideas they put together. You can get some interesting ideas out of the whole thing, but it can be interesting to see what the professional had in mind that never made it to television.

Earlier this week, WWE made a pair of surprise releases by letting the AOP go from the company. The team was a pretty simple concept: take two big, intimidating monsters and have them destroy various people. It was an idea that worked very well while it lasted and it probably could have continued for a long time to come. WWE had more plans for AOP and now we know what those were.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, both Paul Heyman and Triple H wanted to make the AOP into the WWE’s version of the Road Warriors. This was part of the reason why the team was paired with Paul Ellering while they were still in NXT. There is no word on why the AOP was released. The team has not been in action since the March 9 Monday Night Raw as Rezar has been out of action with a torn bicep.

The team was great for a long time. Check out what they could do in WWE:

Opinion: I’m not sure why WWE let a team like this go but given their look, size and success, they are only going to be unemployed for as long as they want to be. A lot of promotions are going to be waiting to pick them up and I can’t imagine WWE doesn’t bring them back (or at least try to) someday. It’s a rather confusing release, but maybe things can work out better for them elsewhere.

What did you think of the team? Where will they wind up? Let us know in the comments below.
