He got there. Roman Reigns has been on a run the likes of which has not been seen in WWE in a very long time. Reigns has been the Universal Champion since August 2020 and has rapidly climbed up the list of all time title reigns in the company’s history. Reigns has now held the Universal Title for 1,238 days, surpassing Bruno Sammartino’s second reign with the title. This puts his reign fourth all time, after Sammartino’s first reign, Bob Backlund and Hulk Hogan. Reigns would surpass Hogan’s reign in September of this year. His next title defense is scheduled for next weekend’s Royal Rumble in a four way match.

Opinion: This is incredibly impressive and Reigns is likely to hold the title for a good bit longer, though it helps when he almost never defends the title. That being said, anytime you hear the words “surpassed Bruno Sammartino”, you know it is a special moment and that is what we are seeing again. It is something you do not see very often and well done by Reigns for pulling it off.
