That explains things. The wrestling landscape has changed quite a bit thanks to the rise of AEW. The company has brought in all kinds of new stars to go with some established veterans who might to have been able to appear on this kind of a stage before. It can be rather fascinating to see who might be showing up from time to time, but now we know why two major names have not showed up yet.

According to Fightful Select, a person of influence at Warnermedia, which owns AEW’s broadcast partners TNT and TBS, would not allow AEW to bring in the Briscoe Brothers. This is due to Jay Briscoe releasing homophobic statements on Twitter in 2013, for which he has since apologized. There is no word on if there was interest from AEW or Warnermedia on bringing the team in.

The Briscoes and former AEW Tag Team Champions FTR had a showdown at Ring Of Honor’s Final Battle in 2021 but it was not mentioned on AEW TV. The teams have also never had a match in any other promotion. It is not clear if the Briscoes, the reigning Ring Of Honor Tag Team Champions, will be used on the new Ring Of Honor, which is owned by AEW President Tony Khan.

Opinion: This is a situation that makes sense and I’m not entirely surprised that it is taking place. Jay said some things that are hardly acceptable and while it was a long time ago, they were the kind of thing that will be a red flag on him for the rest of his career. I don’t know if the Briscoes are ever going to make it to AEW TV, but at the end of the day, a lot of places are not going to want to do business with him over something like this. There isn’t much of a way around that either and it seems to be the case again.

What do you think of the Briscoes? Where will they sign next? Let us know in the comments below.
