That’s where we’re going. WrestleMania season is upon us and that means we are in the most interesting time of the year. This includes more shows than just WrestleMania itself, as NXT will also be presenting its latest Takeover event with Stand & Deliver. This time around, we have a little twist though as the show will run over two nights. That means two main events and one of them is set.
The NXT women’s division has come a long way in the promotion’s history and that is a great thing. Long before the Women’s Revolution changed the way women’s wrestling worked in WWE, the women of NXT had quite a reputation for greatness in the ring. That has continued for years, including a long list of great champions. One of those champions will be putting her title on the line again at Takeover.
WWE.com has announced that NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai will defend her title against Raquel Gonzalez in the main event of the first night of Takeover: Stand & Deliver. This comes after Shirai challenged Gonzalez to a title match, saying she wanted the best competition. Takeover will be held on Wednesday April 8 and Thursday April 9 on the USA Network and Peacock respectively.
The build has been interesting. Check out how we got here:
Opinion: This is the match that you knew was coming and there is nothing wrong with that. There is almost no one else for Shirai to face so putting her against Gonzalez makes all the sense in the world. I’m not sure how the match is going to go, but someone has to beat Shirai and Gonzalez is as much of a monster as you are going to have down in NXT at the moment.
