That should get some interest. We are less than two weeks away from the next NXT Takeover, though you might not know that given how little has been set for the show. The build for the show is going to be packed into just a few weeks and since nothing was set for the show last week, NXT is rapidly running out of time. They set something up this week though and it’s a pretty big one.
Earlier this month, Finn Balor won the NXT Title for the second time in a big match against Adam Cole. That was a very special moment for Balor, but it is also the start of something much harder as Cole now has to defend the title. There are a lot of wrestlers who could be coming after the title and now a new one is going to be getting a shot at the new champion in a major match.
This week on NXT, Kyle O’Reilly won the first ever Gauntlet Eliminator to become the new #1 contender for the NXT Title. The match was a combination of a gauntlet match and a Royal Rumble with five entrants coming in at set intervals and the last man standing being named #1 contender. O’Reilly won by last eliminating Cameron Grimes, earning the title shot at the October 4 Takeover.
O’Reilly looks sharp at the moment. Check out some of his better work:
Opinion: Works for me. O’Reilly has long since been thought of as a potential break out star in NXT and putting him in this spot is a good sign for his future. He’s only thirty three years old and is a former Ring of Honor World Champion, along with being part of perhaps the best tag team that NXT has ever had. That’s not too shabby and we could be in for a heck of a classic at Takeover.
What are you expecting from the match? Will O’Reilly ever be NXT Champion? Let us know in the comments below.
