That’s a problem. We are almost two months removed from WrestleMania 40 and that means the stories that took place at the show are still being felt around the company. This includes stories near the top of the card, such as Cody Rhodes being the new WWE Universal Champion. That title change headlined the show, but it turns out that there was another idea in mind.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Problem: AEW Wrestlers Reportedly Frustration Over Various Issues
The main event of WrestleMania 40 saw Rhodes defeat Roman Reigns to win the WWE Universal Title. The match included interference from Reigns’ cousin the Rock, who also confronted Rhodes the following night on Monday Night Raw. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there was an idea discussed of Rock defeating Reigns to win the title before vacating it and claiming himself as the People’s Champion. However, both Reigns and WWE COO Triple H were said to be “pretty strong” against the idea. There is no word on how far along the idea got or if it was ever seriously considered.
They had a better plan. Check out what we got at WrestleMania and beyond:
Opinion: I’m not sure how far such an idea would have gotten, but it is almost hard to fathom that it was ever given any serious thought. Rock winning the title to end a three and a half year long reign and then just vacating the title would have been good for the Rock but that’s about it. Thankfully WWE went in the right direction, as they had everything set up rather perfectly and then made it happen.
What do you think of the idea? How would it have gone? Let us know in the comments below.
