Never say never. If there is one thing that I have learned in the last few years as a wrestling fan, it is that there is always the chance to see something happen. Wrestlers have a tendency to stick around for a very long time and there is often the chance to see someone get back in the ring even if it has been a very long time. That seems to be the case again.

One of the biggest wrestling surprises in recent memory was Edge’s return to the ring at the 2020 Royal Rumble. Edge had not wrestled in almost nine years but wound up having a big match at WrestleMania 36. He then went on to win the 2021 Royal Rumble in quite the surprise. That meant Edge was back almost full time and that means he is going to be doing other things for the first time in a long while. Another thing will be taking place next week.

This week on SmackDown, Edge appeared at the end of the show to challenge Jey Uso to a match on next week’s show, with the winner being the special enforcer for the Universal Title match between Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan at Fastlane. This will be Edge’s first singles match on SmackDown since since March 22, 2011 when he defeated Drew McIntyre. Edge is scheduled to challenge Reigns for the Universal Title at WrestleMania 37.

Edge is quite the star. Check out some of his time on SmackDown:

A determined Edge comes face-to-face with a passionate Daniel Bryan: SmackDown, March 12, 2021

FULL MATCH - Edge vs. Kane - World Heavyweight Title Last Man Standing Match: SmackDown, Jan 7, 2011

FULL-LENGTH MATCH - SmackDown - Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero - No Disqualification Match

Opinion: This is something that feeling like a rather nice moment, as Edge really was the face of SmackDown for a long time. He is someone who had more star power than almost anyone in WWE today so seeing him in a regular match on television feels like a special moment. It is clear that Edge is not likely to be in the ring for that much longer so getting him to do something like this is a cool thing to see.
