I’d say he deserved it. There are very few wrestlers who are internationally known stars. Of course there are going to be some names who are top WWE names, but how many wrestlers from outside the company are known everywhere? There are a few here and there, and one of them is going to get quite the honor stateside, despite not wrestling in WWE very often.

On January 5 at the second night of Wrestle Kingdom, Jushin Thunder Liger wrestled his retirement match after an in-ring career that lasted for over thirty five years. Liger was one of the greatest lightweight wrestlers of all time, owning every record there is to have for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title. He was incredibly influential wrestler and now, he is getting a chance to be honored by the American wrestling world.

According to Tokyo Sports, as translated by PW Insider, Liger will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, Class of 2020. Liger only wrestled once for WWE, defeating Tyler Breeze at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn. There is no word on who will be inducting Liger. As of this writing, the Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for April 2, though it is not clear if the ceremony is still taking place due to the Coronavirus.

Liger is as legendary as you get. Check out some of his highlights:

Opinion: This is something that may seem a little weird for WWE but at least Liger has been been in WWE at one point. He is one of the biggest international stars in wrestling history and only retired two and a half months ago. It is a great thing for WWE to honor him and it is something that is long overdue. This should be an awesome moment, and the speech alone should be outstanding.

Who do you want to see induct Liger? Who else should be in the class? Let us know in the comments below.
