There’s more to it than that. We are less than six days away from Elimination Chamber and WWE does not seem all that interested. As of last week, the company was building towards three shows at the same time and Elimination Chamber felt like the least important of all of them. The show must go on though and that means some matches needed to be added in a hurry, which is now the case.

There are a lot of ways to build up a big match and one of the best is to have a shorter version of the match in the first place. It’s like an appetizer at a restaurant: if they can get your attention, you might want something bigger later on. That seemed to be the case this week on Monday Night Raw, where multiple matches took place to set up rematches at Elimination Chamber.

This week on Monday Night Raw, two matches were announced for Sunday’s Elimination Chamber. First, the Street Profits defeated Murphy and Seth Rollins to win the Raw Tag Team Titles. Immediately after, Rollins issued a challenge for a rematch for the titles, which was granted. Later in the show, AJ Styles defeated Aleister Black after Black had already defeated both Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. As a result, Black will face Styles in a No Disqualification match at Elimination Chamber.

Consider these dress rehearsals. Check out the matches that got us ready for Sunday:

Opinion: I’m not wild on this kind of booking but it helps when the first round of matches were both short and didn’t eat up a bunch of time. I’ve never gotten the idea of having long matches that aren’t very good in the first place and then using that to make me want to see another long rematch. Give the fans a little taste here and then move on to the big stuff on Sunday.
